The Problem
Invasive jasmine (Jasminum polyanthum) has aggressively taken over some public forest , suffocating everything. Left unchecked, it creates a monochromatic wasteland where biodiversity cannot survive.
Why It Matters
Healthy ecosystems are the backbone of our community. By removing these invasive species, we're not only protecting local flora but also ensuring that native bird populations have the habitat they need to thrive. This restoration project acts as a blueprint for community-led conservation across the region.
What We’re Doing
Our strategy combines manual removal techniques with targeted organic suppressants. We coordinate regular Guardian working bees to tackle the most heavily infested areas, followed by immediate replanting of canopy-forming native trees to shade out future growth.
Progress Updates
To date, we have successfully cleared the primary restoration zone and identified key growth points for the next phase. Community engagement has exceeded our initial targets, with over 50 Guardians joining our recent site visits. We continue to monitor the cleared zones for any signs of regrowth.

Project Area
This project is restoring a heavily jasmine-infested section of native Coromandel forest. By removing the invasive vine, we're giving native trees, seedlings and wildlife the chance to thrive again. The work is completed in manageable sections, with every metre cleared contributing to the long-term recovery of the forest.

Project 001 Launch: Jasmine Restoration
This restoration project aims to reclaim 5 hectares of native bush from invasive jasmine vines. Initial clearing has begun near the primary access point.

Phase One Clearing
I have cleared the first 25m2 of invasive jasmine. The transformation is already visible, revealing the native undergrowth that has been suppressed for years. We are now preparing for the community action day to begin the second tier of restoration.
